Family Friendly Happy Hour

Do you feel like you're home A LOT more with your family, but somehow have less time to connect? For many of us, things are busier than ever. Work/life balance is tough to maintain with many homes now doubling as an office and school!

Especially during these times, it's so important to stick together as a family. Some intentional check-in time and a little fun and recreation can be good for mental health, as well as the soul. Even if activities or restaurants near you aren't an option to go to right now, you can still create a special "outing" for your family. Why not recreate a family-friendly happy hour right at home? It's easy to do, and so much fun to customize for your family.

What You'll Need:

Drinks, of course!
The Western Chief team mixed up our own delicious mocktail. It's fizzy, fun, and toad-ally Fritz the Frog-approved! 🐸🥂

Fizzy Fritz Mocktail
  • Your favorite glasses (we chose champagne flutes)
  • Sanding sugar or sprinkles (optional)
  • Straws (optional)
  • Frog gummy candy
  • Skewers
  • 1/2 cup apple cider
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup of your favorite sparkling water
Dip the rim of your glasses in water, then gently pat in sugar or sprinkles. Optional, but makes this drink feel extra fancy! Next, mix the juices together, and top with sparkling water. Add Fritz's favorite candy (frog gummies, of course!) onto a skewer for garnish. Add a straw and enjoy!

Appetizers
Have you ever realized that adult's beloved charcuterie boards are very, very similar to those Lunchable boxes kids absolutely go bonkers over? Maybe your family's tastes are more similar than you think! 😉

A spread of cheese and crackers, sliced fruit and veggies, and popcorn are all great options! It doesn't have to be fancy or complicated. Most simple foods can feel special and like a true "happy hour" just with a little presentation. Add fancy skewers or bring out the cloth napkins!

Ambiance
Turn on some background music! Stick with some relaxing classics to set the tone. Or, build a playlist together, each contributing a few of your favorite songs! Highly recommended: make this a phone/screen free environment so you can really focus on connecting with one another!

Attire
The bonus of an at-home happy hour is COMFY CLOTHES! So bring out those PJ pants and put those high heels back on the shelf. This happy hour calls for some comfy Western Chief slippers! Check out some of our favorite slippers for men and women, plus some adorable slipper boots and booties for kids!

Our top picks: men's Moc slipper, women's Elaine slipper, and kids Makena slipper bootie!

Connect
Ultimately, this time is about connecting with your family and having fun and meaningful conversation. If you're not sure how to start, using table topic cards is a great idea and easy ice breaker. We like this one available for purchase online (check it out, here), or you can even make your own!

Enjoy!
The best part about this family-friendly happy hour is there's no right or wrong way to do it. Customize the food, music, and activities to suit you and your family's likes and interests. The important thing is being together.

Cheers from our Western Chief family to yours!
